According to a leak by German games magazine Gamestar, SimCity 5 is on route for a 2013 release.
The news comes after EA?s Senior Director of PR, Erik Reynolds, teased on Twitter that an important EA Maxis announcement is planned for next week?s GDC in San Francisco.
A translation of the magazine article suggests an improved graphics engine called ?Glassbox?, allowing players to oversee their civic creations from far above, or zoom down close enough to read individual shop signs. This level of detail continues to a minute level ? citizens can be seen meeting for lunch at caf?s and protesting unpopular mayoral legislation; the destitute will visibly take to sleeping on the streets or in parks, while their abandoned houses might become the hideouts of local criminals.
Curved roads and customisable buildings will make their premiere appearances.
Multiplayer is also touted as a major feature. Players will be able to share resources like water and power between cities. Though deeper interaction is probable, nothing concrete has yet been disclosed.
EA Maxis presented Gamestar with a gallery of concept art, stating that they would only release internal screenshots when they were absolutely sure the material was up to scratch:
Expect more details to come if next week?s GDC announcement does indeed confirm SimCity 5.
In the meantime, you can read more interesting speculation on the missing city-builder sequel here.
